Springing forward gets more and more interesting every year. The phone, watch and computers switch automatically but the coffee maker, stove, alarm and wall clocks need human help. This human knows to go to bed early but once I get there my mind races, wondering if something will go wrong and if wherever I’m supposed to be the next day will end up with a late arrival. With Sunday play being across the state and having missed the previous week because of the PPR certification, combined with daylight savings, well, I was bound to mess something up.
I woke up on time but it snowed, and was snowing, so leaving even 5 minutes later than normal was a potential problem. I couldn’t remember when I typically leave which caused a dilemma. I scooted out at what I thought was an okay time and my GPS said I’d arrive 1 minute after we were to start. Uh oh.
I ignored the snow and went significantly over the speed limit the entire way, shaving off 4 minutes and somehow arriving safely. I prefer to be a cautious driver but I also prefer to be on time so it was a conundrum.
My mother had started asking (nice for nagging) me if I was coming over mid-week and I told her I didn’t have confirmation. I usually get it on Friday but heard nothing so I finally reached out to see if we were playing. I got a response but that the person who organizes it wouldn’t be there. Still, good group.
I wondered what that meant and if I would know anyone. I knew a few people and had never seen 1 guy. We played 4 women’s games with the same teams the entire time then we switched to mixed. In mixed I played with each guy and against each woman.
There wasn’t a lot of dinking on the day so there weren’t any opportunities for ATPs. I worked on my serve and my returns and I did alright with my drops. I had some speed ups and tried to hit a forehand down the line and almost took a poor guy’s head off (oops!). That surprised and disappointed me that I sailed a shot like that.
We wrapped up play and I went to visit the parents, enjoying a yummy meal. I drove home at a nice, safe speed happy the entire trip was in daylight.
