I managed to get some Saturday morning play and it was wonderful. I played with a couple of different people that I don’t always play with and most of the day was mixed play.
I had a pretty good day. I didn’t miss too many shots. I missed a couple of serves and they got me a couple times on the backhands, but I had a pretty good day. It was a lot of fun and a good workout.
I was actually still very sore and my serve probably was affected a lot by my knee hurting. It still feels a little weird on what is I guess my knee cap. It’s strange because it is a 2-year-old knee. With it being so new it is strange to have a little irritation or tweak with it. I don’t even know how to describe it because it isn’t debilitating pain but it’s enough of a something to cause me some frustration.
I did play twice Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and then early this morning so it could just be my knee saying take it easy old lady. I don’t have anything lined up for tomorrow and I am eager to take a day off because I am so sore. I know I haven’t had much water since I’ve been back from Oklahoma and it is just mind-blowing how wrong your body can feel if the right fluids aren’t consumed.
I feel like my body parts are rusty and they don’t want to click and work like they should. It’s all over; it’s my shoulders and my hips, and my back, and my calves, it’s like everywhere that I’m just sore and there’s no reason for that except that I’ve played a little bit more than usual, not had water, have been eating poorly and just not giving my body an opportunity to be lubricated, for lack of a better word. I’ll start loading up on water and take a day off the court tomorrow.
One of the guys I played today was really good at his backhand roll. It was pretty impressive and I wish I could do that. He did do it a little too much, but man, when he would get it, it was very good.
Both the guys had illegal serves and they just absolutely crushed us one game because they whipped out all the trickery with their serves. It was funny because one of the guys asked after the game if he was serving illegal. I told him, yeah, both of your serves were illegal that game. I explained why but then I dropped it.
I used to get so worked up over illegal serves but at this point it’s like, if you want to serve illegal, go ahead. I’m seeing something different, something extra challenging and in a tournament you don’t know if people are going to call that anyway. The pros serve so illegal nowadays that it’s almost like you’ve been granted permission to serve illegal because you know, the top pros are doing it. No one calls them on it so why would it be called on amateurs?
So I didn’t really worry about it because the serves were harder, they had better angles and one of them was able to get so much spin and power on it that when it landed it would bounce like almost up to my shoulder.
It was a nice challenge to try to manage the tough serves. This was a pretty hard hitting group but they also would dink a lot, too.
I’m super glad I got to play. I love it when I get morning games and even though I was kind of whipped I’m glad I got out and got to play today. I’m also super grateful that there are indoor places to play on the weekend because even though it’s warm out, there is no chance you could play outside with the wind like it is.
I was happy with the way my shots were working and had a couple of shots that surprised me.
I’m feeling a little bit more comfortable trying different shots even though I’m in these competitive games. And I think the other lady that played today wants to start drilling. I don’t know when either of us would be able to pull that off, but I’d love to be able to mix in another day of drilling and to do it with her because she plays different than my regular drilling partner.
