Tuesday Rec Play

My Tuesday ladies group play has ended so I went to my favorite local rec center to catch a few games. I played 3 games and 2 of them were the scenario of 3 pretty good players and 1 player that is kind of out of his element. With open play there’s nothing you can do about that, you can’t control who gets on the court.

I got a decent game at the very end and was happy about it. My legs are super heavy and I’m still a little bit off schedule from the weekend. I didn’t eat before I left so I was really hungry and it was a bit challenging to get going. But the purpose of today was to kind of shake out my legs and hit some balls. I did hit a backhand ATP which was fun and unexpected. I used my V2 Icon and did pretty good with it. It’s a little heavier than my other paddle and has a longer handle so I missed some shots I don’t normally miss but so far I like it.

It’s nice out, a real pretty day. It’s still a little cool and windy but I think people are at that stage of wanting to play outside, wanting to get in the sun. I personally am not ready to battle the wind and the hordes of players battling for a court. I’ll take a basketball gymnasium and a squishy ball, or even better, pay for a court reservation.

I had yesterday off because I traveled back from Oklahoma. I probably could have gone and found a game but I just decided to take the day off, catch up with some friends and talk about the weekend.

I was pretty sure everything was going to be different after the combine. I wasn’t sure which way it was going to go. Was it going to be I went and I didn’t belong or was it going to be I went and I did belong. I probably had put more thought into the what if I didn’t belong because that would dictate the importance to what kind of play I got moving forward. There wouldn’t be a need for hard, competitive games anymore, I could just go out whenever, wherever and find a game.

I hadn’t put much thought into winning and what things would be like if that happened. Well, the first thing that happened that was different was being in line at the airport Starbucks and people yelling my name. I thought, I’m in Oklahoma, they can’t be yelling at me, right? I looked back and sure enough it was a couple of other combine players yelling congratulations and high-fiving me when I got my coffee. I went to charge my laptop and another lady walked by, throwing her arms in the air in excitement from running into me. She gave me a bunch of shout outs of congratulations and I couldn’t believe that at 5 a.m. I was getting so much attention, it was pretty surreal.

When I went to the rec center today there were people congratulating me and asking me for all the details. I feel like I need to brush up on all the specifics of the league because people have a lot of questions.
