I normally lose most of my games on Wednesday and today really wasn’t different. I was super achy today and it never really seemed to wash off. I never really felt like I was free of the achiness.
This group had 3 lefties so there were a lot of fun games. I think I played with or against everyone. I used my Icon all day and somebody asked me why I switch paddles; if I was using one for different shots against different players or if I had some kind of system to switching them up. I admitted, no, I was just trying to get used to the Selkirk and finally decided that the days of trying to get that to work are over. He asked why and I told him that I have zero touch with it and that I have more winners with my touch shots than I do with power. The power is super fun but it doesn’t win points for me.
I do have a little bit of a conundrum with my Diadem because I guess they’re going to make a version 2 of my Icon and I don’t know what that means. Will it be a complete overhaul or same paddle, different colors? They are having a big sale on the version 1, which is what I use, and I can’t decide if I should buy a whole bunch of them in case I don’t like version 2 or if I shouldn’t buy any and just wait for version 2 to come out. I’m not sure what to do in that scenario, because if I don’t like version 2 and I haven’t stocked up on version 1, I’m probably going to have to go to a different brand.
I had 2 ATPs today but I think I gave up 5. It was that lefties dinking battle scenario. I get so confident with my angle dink against them that I cause a bad situation. My shot has an amazing angle but it pops out nice and far and opens up a pretty easy backhand ATP for anyone who’s willing to get low enough to hit it. And this one guy I gave him at least three, maybe four, that he took his time, got down real low and was very successful.
I had one backhand ATP that I don’t even know how I’m managed to get it and I actually cheered after I did it because I felt like it was so tough to get.
I helped with the ladies drill group and we did a lot of the same drills as last week.
I tried a new drill that I made up and I don’t know if it helped. They seemed ok with it but it was weird and I think they knew it. I hope it helped, I really want them to be able to attack off a dink they set up, and to know what balls are attackable.
We ended with the net zero game. I think everyone had fun but they were avoiding shots they should take and taking shots that they felt would safely go over the net. Rather than trying to win a point they were trying to avoid the net, which may express the competitive nature of these ladies.
Towards the end I had to fill in and almost right away did an ATP. I probably looked like a show off but I was happy with the shot anyhow.
